Recently, we discovered a heartfelt review from a wedding that took place at Newagen Seaside Inn in September of 2008. The review is full of good feedback on what went well and how they would change certain aspects if they could turn back the clock.
Our son held his wedding at The Inn during a holiday weekend last year. Cannot say enough good things about the Newagen, its location, staff, food and goings-on.
We stayed there for 5 days and our only complaint would be that the day we wanted to use their rowboats it was too choppy and they weren't allowing anyone to go out.
The rooms were delightful - each one decorated in a completely different, yet very cozy style. The outer deck plus the screened in veranda plus rocking chairs were very homey. The large game room with games and tables and couches, plus overstuffed pillows on the floor gave it a "family room" atmosphere - must be nice in cooler weather with the fireplace going as well!
The dining room was always bright and sunny and inviting each morning we came down for the included breakfast buffet. It didn't feel like a restaurant buffet because all the food tasted like it just came off the stove (unlike when you go to a buffet and everything is either mushy or dried up ). Much to choose from and excellent. The wedding dinner itself was fabulous -everything was done to perfection - no complaints other than they ran out of roast beef. This is after some had gone up for seconds already. The chicken piccata was to die for!
The wedding guests were busy constantly. Not only was there the game room right inside the Inn. There were bicycles on the front porch just waiting to be used (free). Plus the rowboats down at the dock(also free).. There's also a spa room, hot tub, swimming pool, hiking trails and, what everyone enjoyed the most - the "bowling alley building" (my name for it). It was a separate building which housed a two-lane old-fashioned bowling alley, plus pool table, plus ping-pong table, plus piano.
The young folks, as well as their older parents, all had a good time up there. Then, one night, we also had a campfire in their firepit and someone played the guitar.
The only complaint I might have would be that the pub closed for drinks at 10:00. You could still sit around, but they didn't serve there after that hour. That's when the older folks moved up to the bowling building and joined the younger folks, because they had a keg of beer up there. It brought young and old guests together and a lot of laughs and fun were had up there, as bowling and pool and pingpong tournaments were had! The only thing no one used was the bocce court.
I just cannot say enough good things - only hope our daughter decides to have her wedding there when she gets married!
Oh yes - the views were absolutely pure Maine. In fact you could see Margaret Hamilton's(the wicked witch of the east from The Wizard of Oz) house off on a small island from one vantage point. They had Adirondack chairs out on the lawns to enjoy the views and rocking chairs on the front porch. If you went across the front lawn and down to the shore, it was very peaceful and nice to get away to sit and think and enjoy the ocean view without anyone else around.
In all, would not hesitate to have a wedding there! In fact, we had been to a wedding reception which was a 5-hour cruise on Lake Champlain earlier that summer. Thought that was the best wedding ever - that is, until our son's wedding at The Newagen.
One more thing - prior to the actual reception dinner, cocktails and hor d'ourves were served down on a deck near the swimming pool. Again, the food was excellent and the waitstaff wonderful.
