On Location with David Ryan: From Springfield, Ma to Southport, Me

Ryan_196

The rainiest June in nearly 100 years was not the weather we had hoped for when David Ryan,, commercial and architechtural photographer from Springfield, Massachussetts, arrived at Newagen on Saturday. While this soggy setting would prove to be an insurmountable hurdle for most, David and his very capable assistant (and wife) Susan rolled with the punches and delivered extraordinary photographs through an impeccable eye for detail and artistry.

One Day Lobster Sales Top 7000 in Boothbay Harbor

BakedStuffedLobster

Locals and Maine Lobster-lovers from Bangor to Lewiston lined up as early as 7:30 am for $5.00 Lobsters on Saturday November 8 at the Boothbay High School parking lot for the promotion dubbed, "Lobster Maine-ia". The lobsters were offered either live or cooked and by 9:00 a.m. an estimated 2000 lobsters had already been sold. The Boothbay Register reported that the event was planned to focus attention on the dramatic drop in lobster sales. According to the Register, $10,000 was cleared to be used to promote lobster sales statewide. Of course, those who purchased lobsters enjoyed an all time low price per piece and that makes them taste even better too. For more information such as recipes, statistics and fun facts on Maine Lobster, visit the Lobster Promotion Council online. To order Maine Lobsters direct to your doorstep we recommend Robinson's Wharf at 207-633-3830.

Deckview_2

Newagen Seaside Inn is featured in the April 2008 issue of Downeast Magazine as one of 15 Great Escapes Off the Beaten Trail.

Here is the Downeast Article in full.

Retreat to Southport

As summer crowds take to the streets in nearby Boothbay Harbor, sneak out of town and follow Route 27 down to Southport Island where you can relive the nineteenth-century rusticator era at the Newagen Seaside Inn (www.newagenseasideinn.com) on the southern tip of the point. Candlepin bowling, croquet, horseshoes, badminton, and tennis are just some of the old-timey activities offered by this classic oceanfront hotel. The grounds also have trails for walking, or take a bike ride on the back roads. After a few days in Southport, you’ll be relaxed and ready to face the world again.

Make a Night of It: Once you’ve arrived at Southport Island you’ll not want to leave, and the Cape Harbor Grill at the Newagen Seaside Inn gives you no reason to. Your most difficult decision may be deciding between the crab cakes and the lobster pancakes. And isn’t that the way a getaway is supposed to be?

Portland Magazine Features Historic Newagen Seaside Inn

016_2

In 1923, Joshua Brooks, founder of Brooks Bank and Eastern Expo, spun a rundown Southport boarding house into a hotel that would become an icon. He brought electricity to the unsettled area, extended Route 27 to their door, and bought 300 acres to save them from reckless local logging.
